International Clinical Pathology Journal 2016 — “Comparison of Immunological Effects of Commercially Available β-Glucans: Part III “- International Clinical Pathology Journal- Volume 2 Issue 4 2016 – This research study is the third examination of 15 Beta Glucan products from different sources- mushrooms, barley, yeast and oat, that are available to the general public. The researchers looked again at Phagocytosis, nitrite oxide formation, IL-2 and IFN-γ formation, and added a lung cancer model. No clear relevance between the source used for isolation and biological effects was found. As before, the 15 individual glucans differed in biological effects based on tested characteristics, but Glucan #300 (A.J. Lanigan’s) again served as a benchmark in all the trials. So, highly purified and highly active glucans have strong and pleiotropic effects, but poorly defined glucans have only medium (if any) biological effects.
